Who would win between a rapier swordsman and a samurai?
The first thing you have to know is that in order for the fencer to win is only if he’s able to move lightning fast and by cutting the other guy little by little. If he stabs the guy deep, he’s done for. The reason why is because even if you’re able to cut the other person’s throat, stab the heart, or do any of those, other person can still move and throw couple of blows before they die and Samurai also learns to stab, slice, move around quickly and throw the strikes quickly as possible since they have to fight and kill multiple opponents at war. If you see movies or video games where the guy has their throat cut or heart shot and drops dead right then and there, it’s actually impossible. But it’s possible that you could die from shock of pain but that’s rarely the case unless you have a very weak heart and mentality. Rapier is not something you would use at war. It was a sword used for dueling between nobles.
Also, rapier is mainly used for thrusting and it’s very thin. Samurai rarely stabs with their sword because they’re taught that it has risks. Even if it’s that thick, there’s less chance of killing them under one blow and it’s easy for them to deflect it or move it out of the way and move in for the kill. Also, Katana proved on tv that they can cut through steel pipe with proper technique and can also break any thinner and lighter Katana so there’s no way something as thin and light as rapier could block the blow from a Katana without any problem.
